About the Speakers
Richard Kwan: Spririts and Emotions: Improving Yourself Through Self-Cultivation
Richard Kwan’s innovative style of Acupuncture teaches the importance of self-cultivation, palpation and intention to create effective results and improve your practice. Lecture will cover topics such as:
- How to cultivate the Spirit as a Practitioner through five elements
- What are my fears and how to improve my confidence in my practice
- How to practice effectively with less needles
- How do I know if my needle is working?
Biography
Richard Kwan is an experienced practitioner of Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine, Chinese Nutritional therapy, and Tuina massage. His practice integrates systems of Chinese medicine including Chinese, Japanese, Five Elements, Alchemy, Zhu, Tung and Tan Style Acupuncture. Upon graduation from the Toronto School of Traditional Chinese Medicine, he started Simple Cures – a Chinese Medicine centre and has been in private practice in Vaughan and The Beaches. He is currently the Director of the Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture program and lectures at the Shiatsu School of Canada Acupuncture Institute.
Richard is also very passionate about working with the disadvantaged and volunteers extensively at Evergreen Centre for Street Youth and People with Aids. In addition, he has a strong commitment to Tai Chi and Qi Gong which he has practiced for over 18 years. He teaches Tai Chi at the downtown YMCA for promoting health and preventing diseases. Richard believes that a simple lifestyle promotes better health and he strives to empower his patients to become more proactive with their own health.

Biography
Wendy Croft is an Account Director at TELUS Health and brings over 25 years of experience in transactional based businesses. She started with the original privately held company (Shared Health) who was active from the start of electronic claim processing in Canada, which was later acquired by BCE (BCE Emergis), and then by TELUS. Wendy’s current focus is on TELUS Health’s eClaims solution, Canada’s largest multi-insurer claims portal for extended healthcare providers.

Zhao started his apprenticeship in acupuncture, under his father. His formal education includes a Bachelors degree from the Nanjin Railway Medical College, plus a Masters degree and post grad training in Medicine from the Tianjin Medical College. He began his career as a General Practioner in China, as well as lecturing in Tianjin at the Institute of Endocrinology, until 1987 when he immigrated to Canada.
He was a visiting Research Professor at the University for 2 years and then opened his own private practice in TCM and Acupuncture in 1990. Zhao has also been published in more than 15 reputable and award winning journals and publications. He practises in Ottawa Ontario.
